Billboard Kills The Hot Singles Sales Chart

final billboard hot singles sales chart

As of week 46 of 2017, the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart is officially no more. This means that artists’ CD and Maxi single sales no longer have any charting power until the Billboard Hot 100. Indiehitmaker feels that it is a great mistake to see this chart go as it leaves a gap in reflecting independent success in the marketplace. Though we are saddened by the loss, we are also proud of what our artists could accomplish as week 45, the final week the chart ran, was dominated by Indiehitmaker artists.

“I loved the Hot Singles Sales Chart. It was an amazing ‘starter’ chart for many independent artists, something easily attainable for small artists to help them start their momentum. Losing this chart is a big disservice for the industry.”

Bram Bessoff – Indiehitmaker Founder & President

Many demographics of music listeners, such as older R&B and Reggae fans, simply don’t engage with social media and prefer to buy physical CDs at live shows or direct from the artist. With Billboard looking at a shift towards digital and hybrid charts in 2018, what should independent artists be doing to adapt?

With these charts much more difficult to break into, now is the time to work with Indiehitmaker to create a winning strategy. Work with an Indiehitmaker Drop Sherpa today, to get you on the charts tomorrow.
